The Bench Wine & Tapas Launches a Sister Restaurant in Ashford
Official Opening: 25th March 2016
The Bench Wine & Tapas opens a second venue in The Courtyard, Mersham Le Hatch, later this month. The original Bench introduced an innovative concept of wine service to Ramsgate, and soon Ashford guests will share the experience. Enjoy a selection of 48 wines dispensed by cutting-edge machines that mean you can sample your choice by the glass at the perfect temperature. Expert, friendly staff are on hand to recommend food pairings and fill you in on the background to your wine.
With executive head chef Warren Tyson at the helm, guests can look forward to the same standard of excellent food, sourced locally from the rich Kent farmland where possible. Tyson honed his cooking skills under the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Jason Atherton, and Stuart Gillies, so you can expect a unique dining experience that engages your senses in a new way.
Apart from its state-of-the-art wine service, The Bench Ashford offers a custom gin menu from which you can choose your gin, your mixer and your botanicals for the perfect drink. Cocktails are another specialty, with both traditional and enquiring tastes accommodated. Choose from a list of Classics served with a Bench twist or sample something from the One-Offs. Try the exclusive Jose Ramos, a refreshingly delicious blend of Anno Kent Gin, pressed elderflower and apple juice, and a secret ingredient.
Bench’s Ramsgate establishment introduced the local beer-drinking public to Mahou on draft, and the tradition of sourcing and offering lesser-known drinks continues in Ashford. Expect everything from The Bench’s own lager to Poretti 4 and the irresistible caramel rum.
The Bench will be open daily from 11am, serving lunch, afternoon tea, wine, cocktails, and dinner. The restaurant is also designed to cater for business meetings and corporate functions during the week. Sunday lunch is a particular treat, with Ramsgate diners flocking to sample delights including sharing platters of succulent roasts or cured meats and home-made focaccia. At least one diner has described the experience as “Easily the best roast I have eaten out for as long as I can remember.”
